A Day To Share Their Honor
This Memorial Day, my barbershop quartet had the privilege to honor a group of veterans at a senior living center by performing a number of patriotic songs. This was a day to share their honor. During the pinning ceremony, each veteran stood proudly and received a pin honoring their service. Looking at each of them pushing themselves up to stand, I saw the many extremely proud young women and men inside each of them. The youthful gleam in their eyes boast the pride they felt and the kinship with their fellow veterans. I began to wonder how their extraordinary experience of serving in the military helped mold the wonderful people they became.
Every Day Is Memorial Day for Gold Star Families.
Each of us is a complex makeup of our experiences and the choices we make. As each of us mature we reflect on our values and the impact we are making. We look at how we can evolve our narratives to help us become the people we want to be. Each of these veterans, and gold star family members honoring the memory of their lost soldiers, have made the greatest sacrifice so we could enjoy our freedoms in America. Many of the gold star family members remarked how every day is Memorial Day for them. The sacrifices they have made allow us to enjoy what many of us know only as a 3-day weekend.
Thank You For Your Sacrifice!
So THANK YOU! To all of those who have served and to all of those who have lost loved ones who have served, I salute you. I hope the sincere thoughts of all those who honor you offer a kind and thoughtful respite. And to those of us who benefit most from our veteran’s sacrifices, I hope our narratives and future selves are sparked by knowing what our fellow Americans did for us.
